History, Mission & Vision

Show and Prove Youth Outreach, Inc. (SAPYOI) was founded in 2000 by young community activists dedicated to unlocking the potential of Atlanta’s youth. From our inception, we have provided free educational programs and mentorship, operating for over two decades out of a residential home in Southwest Atlanta. Our early work was entirely supported by volunteers and local fundraising, a testament to our grassroots origins and deep community ties.

In 2022, SAPYOI reached a key inflection point, securing space at TimbuktuATL, a developing cultural arts center located at 2649 MLK Dr SW. The name “TimbuktuATL” embodies our vision for the space, drawing inspiration from the historic West African city known for its vibrant culture, trade, and learning. For us, “ATL” now signifies Arts, Trades, and Literacy—the three pillars of our expanding programming.

This new location has enabled us to grow our mission. In 2024, we launched new educational programs, including gardening and outdoor art projects, as well as community cleanups across Southwest Atlanta. These initiatives not only teach valuable skills but also foster environmental stewardship and civic engagement.

Show and Prove Youth Outreach, Inc. (SAPYOI) is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of engaged citizens by fostering skills in Arts, Trades, and Literacy through innovative educational programs, mentorship, and civic action that empowers youth to thrive and lead in their Southwest Atlanta community.
